Foul Play Ruled Out in Danelo Death
A week ago, Mario Danelo was playing in the Rose Bowl. Today, officials are continuing their investigation into the USC kicker's death. Danelo, 21, was found at the bottom of a rocky cliff Saturday afternoon in San Pedro and foul play has been ruled out. An autopsy is planned for today, but an investigator told the Daily Breeze that the kicker's fall was likely an accident and not suicide. Danelo is the NCAA record holder for extra points in a season. He made 83 for USC's high-powered offense in 2005. Danelo was known for being calm under pressure. During the 2006 season opener, Arkansas tried to rattle him by calling three consecutive timeouts before a field-goal attempt. "What are we supposed to do?" holder Michael McDonald asked Danelo. "I don't know," Danelo quiped. "Walk around and try not to look stupid."
