The Stunning Death of USC Kicker Danelo

Officials continue to investigate the death of Mario Danelo, the USC kicker whose body was found about 120 feet down a rocky cliff late Saturday afternoon near Point Fermin lighthouse in San Pedro, Calif. His father, former NFL kicker Joe Danelo, was on the scene as authorities were strapping the body of his son to a gurney on the rocks below. The cause of death is under investigation pending an autopsy. Danelo, a 21-year-old junior, made 26 of 28 field goals and 127 of 134 extra points in his career. Although Danelo had missed two extra points in USC's 32-18 victory over Michigan in Monday's Rose Bowl, receiver Chris McFoy, who roomed with Danelo, said the kicker was in good spirits afterward. ... Danelo was mentioned Thursday on CBS' "Late Show With David Letterman." Letterman's list of "Top Ten Signs You're Watching Too Much College Football" was topped by, "In bed, your wife says, 'Get a Trojan' — you come back with USC kicker Mario Danelo." ... Here is a video look at Danelo in his last game, the 93rd Rose Bowl.
