McIngvale, who gave $1 million to the university to help build the practice facility, was upset over the firing of Dickey. So he told university officials to transfer the money to the music department if they didn't honor his wish. McIngvale played football for the Mean Green after transferring from Texas, where he had been a bench-warmer on Darrell Royal's 1969 national championship team. Then "Mattress Mac" got into the furniture business and built his fortune.
