Week 8

Are we headed for the long-awaited Boston College-South Florida BCS title game? The Eagles have this week off and are preparing for an Oct. 25 game at Virginia Tech, but there is no rest for the Bulls, who will be in action Thursday night at Rutgers.

Not much appears to stand in the way of South Florida advancing to the BCS title game. After Thursday, the Bulls play road games at Connecticut, Syracuse and Pittsburgh and home games against Cincinnati and Louisville. The Scarlet Knights present one of the last serious challenges to South Florida.

The Bulls are favored by three against Rutgers.

Thursday also finds resurgent Utah at Texas Christian. The Horned Frogs accomplished something USC couldn't last Saturday. They beat Stanford — at Stanford, no less! TCU is a 3.5-point favorite.

Two games on Friday: Northwestern is an eight-point favorite at Eastern Michigan and Louisville is a 3.5-point favorite at Connecticut.

Saturday's games of note: Penn State (-7.5) at Indiana; Kansas (-4.5) at Colorado; Tennessee (+1) at Alabama; Texas A&M (+2) at Nebraska; Texas Tech (+3.5) at Missouri; USC (-20) at Notre Dame; Miami (+6) at Florida State; Michigan State (+17) at Ohio State; Virginia (+4.5) at Maryland; Florida (-7) at Kentucky; Kansas State (+3.5) at Oklahoma State; Michigan (-3.5) at Illinois and Auburn (+11) at Louisiana State.

On Sunday night, Southern Mississippi (-4) is at Marshall.
