Reporters' Notebooks

Eric Hansen, South Bend Tribune: Offensive guard Matt Carufel became the fourth Notre Dame sophomore to depart in the past four months. Overall, 17 players have left the program for various reasons, including injury and early entry into the NFL draft, since Crewcut Charlie Weis became coach December of 2004.

Chris Dufresne, Los Angeles Times: The Pacific 10 has four teams in the top 14 of the BCS standings, but none crack the top seven. Go figure. Official standings.

Mark Kiszla, Denver Post: Colorado State's Sonny Lubick, 70, says he will give serious consideration to retiring at the end of the season.

Chadd Cripe, Idaho Statesman: Boise State 69, Nevada 67. Four overtimes. Seventeen touchdowns. The most points (136) in a Division I-A game since the NCAA began keeping records in 1937.

Ryan Wood, Lawrence Journal-World: According to the computer rankings, Kansas is better than USC or Florida.

J.P. Giglio, Raleigh News & Observer: Steve Spurrier after his South Carolina Gamecocks defeated North Carolina, 21-15m at Chapel Hill: "I didn't want to lose up here. I'm happy for the Dukies and the South Carolina people. I felt like I was coaching for both of them today."

Alice Haymond, Kentucky Kernel: Kentucky fans burned three couches and a vacuum after the Wildcats upset No. 1 Louisiana State.

100 Percent Injury Rate: Buffalo, which didn't become a Division I-A team until 1999, is now ranked ahead of Notre Dame in the Sportsline poll.

Steve Spurrier is and will always act like a child. This win is for the Dukies too??? what are you talking about Steve? You spent three years there as a head coach. If they are so near and dear to your heart, why didnt you just stay there.

you ought to worry more about your anemic offense and overrated defense than the Dukies.

The 100% injury guy does not know what he's talking about.

Buffalo was not a DIII team prior to their move to the MAC. They were Division I-AA.
