The Hunters Become the Hunted

Appalachian State, the David who slayed Goliath Michigan, has fallen into its own trap.

The Mountaineers, darlings of college football after their startling victory at then-No. 5 Michigan to open the season, are in sixth place in the Southern Conference after losing to Georgia Southern, 38-35.

The two-time defending Division I-AA national champions, 5-2 overall and 1-2 in the conference, might not even qualify for the I-AA playoffs.

“Everybody is coming out and playing us like we’re Michigan,” Appalachian State linebacker Jacque Roman said.
