Appalachian State, the David who slayed Goliath Michigan, has fallen into its own trap.The Mountaineers, darlings of college football after their startling victory at then-No. 5 Michigan to open the season, are in sixth place in the Southern Conference after losing to Georgia Southern, 38-35.
The two-time defending Division I-AA national champions, 5-2 overall and 1-2 in the conference, might not even qualify for the I-AA playoffs.
“Everybody is coming out and playing us like we’re Michigan,” Appalachian State linebacker Jacque Roman said.
