Big, Bad Brutus Meets His Match

Congratulations are in order to that gang from Gainesville, the Florida Gators, 41-14 winners over Ohio State. You had to admire the chomp-romp dismantling of the Buckeyes and Heisman Trophy winner Troy Smith. Ohio State totaled 82 yards, less than the distance traveled by Ted Ginn on his 93-yard kickoff return for a touchdown that gave the Buckeyes a 7-0 lead. Yes, offense wins games, but defense wins championships. Early indications are that the celebration in Gainesville never got out of hand. But maybe they are getting used to this. After all, the basketball team won the NCAA title last spring. In Columbus, fans were saying that Jim Tressel has lost his Midas touch. The conservative coach's decision to go for it on fourth-and-one from the Buckeye 29 late in the first half was rather — shall we say — curious. Some Ohio State fans said as much. "As much as I love Tressel — he is a genius — but I think he's getting outcoached," Dave Lett told the Columbus Dispatch. Fans continue to pile on at the Dispatch's Buckeye message board.
