Cavaliers' Butler Suspended for One Game
Virginia's long-awaited decision on discipline for Brad Butler was announced: one game. The offensive tackle will sit when the Cavaliers play host to Florida State on Saturday. Is one game enough for trying to end the playing career of Boston College's Mathias Kiwanuka? Said Butler: "I've never been one to play outside of the rules. ... I regret this event occurred and have put the incident behind me." Some apology, eh? Butler didn't sound sorry after the game, either. It took Virginia more than 48 hours to make a decision, and coach Al Groh still doesn't seem to get it.

Come on... that kind of hit is not a big deal in Virginia. One game seems about right. It's certainly not as awful as, say, Ball State's players checking out "recommended" books on their scholarship instead of just "required." Some BSU players got up to 5 games for that. There's justice for ya...
This kinda discipline is reminiscent of the kind dealt by Tennessee when one of their players sucker-punched a guy (breaking four bones, his eye socket and a sinus cavity on the right side of his face) on the intramural courts (story here; video here). Here's a felony/misdemenor thread from over at our fansite that points out several other unbelievable suspensions this year...
I couldn't believe this hit when I saw it, and especially that the BC player got thrown out. I know that usually the guy who retaliates gets caught, but it seems like at least one of the officials would have seen the initial hit. Virginia needs to take a tougher stand, but we know that they won't. At least they are sitting him out for the FSU game... I fully expected them to hold off the suspension until the Temple game.
Ridiculous that that behavior is tolerated. His coach should have thrown him out of the game himself. Butler's a loser and always will be. What comes around goes around....
