Columnists' Corner

Rick Morrissey, Chicago Tribune: If Notre Dame is the fourth-best team in the land, then I'm a supermodel (registration).

Mark Story, Lexington Herald-Leader: Rich Brooks needs to win the next two games for Kentucky to retain any hope of a winning season.

Paul Finebaum, Mobile Press-Register: Alabama coach Mike Shula's biggest mistake? Allowing linebacker Juwan Simpson to play on Saturday.

Richard Stevens, Albuquerque Tribune: New Mexico's stunning loss to Portland State was just a ploy to fool rival New Mexico State, which plays host to the Lobos on Saturday.

Kurt Kragthorpe, Salt Lake Tribune: Not only did Utah's three I-A teams lose, they scored the fewest total points of any weekend in 32 years.

Answer me this, Wiz.

When has the Alabama nation ever given a damn about what a Tennessee grad/Auburn apologist has to say about Alabama?

Finebaum. More like Finebitch.

Answer me this, Cool Hand, and I say this appreciating most of your posts here:

Why do all these fan bases call themselves "Nation?" The Alabama nation? That's a little full of yourself, don't you think? People in 49 other states don't feel any connect whatsoever to your little nation.

Only a handful of southern states call themselves nations because we have a history of secession from the Union. Though the reasons for the Civil War were completely misguided, the fact of the matter is THEY HAD THE BALLS TO DO IT. There is a large segment of this country that believes that the South is still a different country.

Texas is in its own right a country. It joined on as a sovereign nation,The state of Texas is the only state in the Union that can fly its flag as high as the flag of The United States of America.

And if for no other reason, IT'S JUST A FUCKING SAYING. Just like us against the world. Don't look to deep into anything I write anyway. You're giving me too much credit.
