Angelique S. Chengelis, Detroit News: Because of construction to Michigan Stadium, there will be no spring game in April at the Big House, and it's unclear whether there will be a spring game at all. Ford Field is a possible site.

Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: Hotshot quarterback recruit Terrelle Pryor is writing a recruiting diary for the paper and says he will take Steelers quarterback Charlie Batch with him on three recruiting visits this month.

Larry Vaught, Danville Advocate-Messenger: Former Baylor coach Guy Morrris has interviewed for a head coaching job at a Kentucky high school.

Robbie Neiswanger, Springdale Morning News: The mother of Arkansas running back Darren McFadden was adamant her son did nothing wrong after being handcuffed by police and later released following an incident at Ernie Biggs piano bar in Fayetteville.

Irv Moss, Denver Post: Air Force quarterback Shaun Carney, who suffered a gruesome injury to his right knee in the Armed Forces Bowl, faces surgery around March 1 after the swelling subsides. He suffered a dislocated kneecap and three torn ligaments.

Michael Tsai, Honolulu Advertiser: Hawaii has no shortage of applicants for its coaching opening. More than 30 people have already applied for the position.

Laurence Miedema, San Jose Mercury News: San Jose State's Dick Tomey broke his weeklong silence, issuing a statement that said he is "focused" on the Spartans' 2008 season but hardly ruled out interest in job opportunities at Hawaii.

Michael DiRocco, Florida Times-Union: Florida associate head coach Doc Holliday, who interviewed for the head coaching opening at West Virginia, is returning to Morgantown as an assistant head coach.

Curt Cavin, Indianapolis Star: Danny Hope, who is expected to take over as Purdue coach in 2009, often wears a whistle around his neck even during games.

Brett McMurphy, Tampa Tribune: South Florida defensive line coach Dan McCarney will interview Friday for the head coaching position at South Alabama.

Richard Davenport, Northwest Arkansas Times: Former Michigan quarterback Ryan Mallett is expected to meet Friday with Arkansas coach Bobby Petrino to talk about a possible transfer.

It is not the Big 11 and Pac10 holding things up. You won't have a playoff without the BCS conferences agreeing. The BCS will never relinquish power back to the NCAA to hold a playoff, negotiate the TV contracts, share the money with all D1 schools, etc.
