Game of the Week

Before Louisiana State emerges from the tunnel and takes the field against Florida in our Game of the Week, Tiger coach Les Miles is facing another round of speculation about his future at Baton Rouge.

Pete Thamel of the New York Times hunted down John Wangler, a former Michigan quarterback and close friend of Miles, and here we go: Would Miles leave the bayou and return to Michigan, where he played and was an assistant under Bo Schembechler?

"When and if the opportunity comes up, I think Les will consider it strongly," Wangler said. "I don’t think there’s reason to tap dance around it. He’d have to look at it seriously."

So add that to Saturday's game, our Game of the Week. Florida can get right back into the national title hunt with a victory, but a loss knocks the defending champions out of it. LSU? The Tigers' schedule looks favorable after Saturday and they might be able to travel the paved road to the Bowl Championship Series title game on cruise control.

To break it down, we went to the best and the brightest in the blogging business. Representing LSU, welcome GeauxTigers of And The Valley Shook:

" 'Miles is a boob!' 'Urban's never lost two straight at UF!' 'LSU's first half against Tulane? Overrated!!! Defense shredded for 227 yards!'

"OK. Know how many teams in the country yield fewer than 227 yards per game? Three. We're one. We just got a wake-up call. Yes, presently our OL resembles Swiss cheese. Our best WR has been out with a groin pull/tear and our QB evidently can't hit the broadside of a barn from 20 yards. It's how we lull you into thinking you've got a chance. And BAM! Out comes chainsaw dick. You are finished."

Our next gentleman needs no introduction, but we will give him one anyway. Representing Florida, welcome Orson Swindle of Every Day Should Be Saturday:

"LSU's unstoppable. A universally accepted truth? It must be wrong, just as everyone's been wrong about everything else this season. LSU has yet to demonstrate the ability to pass with any great consistency against quality competition. (Virginia Tech didn't get a first down for a half. No one stands a chance with Sean Glennon under center.)

"Florida will pass for substantial gains on LSU, and keep things a bit tighter than expected. Florida will also shut down the productive LSU run game for a half or so before youth erodes their sense and understanding of assignments and lets a Trindon Holliday or Keiland Williams take over in the fourth and make us cry, cry, cry like a sad, drunken clown.

"Michael Corleone said that 'If anything in this life is certain, if history has taught us anything, it is that you can kill anyone.' This is true of LSU, but it won't happen if they're paying the kind of close, angry attention they'll be paying this weekend.

"They'll lose when they're unfocused and extremely cocky. That'll happen, but not this weekend. Knowing this year's trend, it'll be against a two-win Ole Miss team, not Florida."
