Meet USC's New Quarterbacks Coach

As if USC needed any help to prepare for a national championship run, who shows up on campus Tuesday? None other than Super Bowl MVP Peyton Manning (he's the guy behind Tommy Lee).

Manning threw passes to receivers for about 90 minutes and gave pointers on footwork and throwing to quarterback John David Booty. "You dream about stuff like this," Booty said.

Manning was in L.A. to film a commercial at the L.A. Coliseum, then contacted Tim Floyd, a longtime friend of Manning's father, Archie, about working out with some of the Trojan footballers.

According to Scott Wolf of the L.A. Daily News, Manning threw to receivers Patrick Turner, David Ausberry and Brandon Carswell, along with tight ends Fred Davis and Anthony McCoy and tailback Joe McKnight, the hotshot recruit from Louisiana.

"I didn't think I'd get to do that," McKnight said. "I found out about 30 minutes before."

And people wonder why players want to come to USC. ...

Manning was filming a commercial?? That's weird. I didn't think there were any products left for him to endorse.

No, people wonder why players want to come to Illinois.

Especially Irish people.

eventually Peyton Manning will have to parody some of his own commercials.

he maxed out the aloof qb schtick.

@andy: What, those commercials weren't self-parody already?

Peyton throws to "already on the team players" is why USC recruits so well? One of the worst pieces of logic I've ever heard. Manning spends SIGNIFICANT time at Tennessee, his alma mater, working with receivers and quarterbacks, not just, "Hey, I'm in town and need some body to throw with because I'm a work-a-holic." Rumor is that he has even "thrown with frat boys" in Knoxville because he couldn't find enough football players. Fact is, Manning will throw with anybody because he is always working. If he's a recruiting tool for USC, then the cast of Desparate Houswives is a recruiting tool for the Vols because the show comes on network TV. Yeah, right. Is this a story, sure. But is he a reason player go to USC? Sure, and the Pope is thinking about putting a big USC on his pointy hat, too. Really poor post.
