Carroll Confident Despite Allegations

USC's Pete Carroll did not sound like a coach who was worried when he made his first extended comments about allegations of impropriety surrounding his team. Carroll said he does not believe the team will have to forfeit games or lose a national championship. "I'm confident that's not where this is going," he said. "The information I have thus far, I don't think that's going to happen at all." And receiver Dwayne Jarrett, who could be forced to sit out games because of a rental agreement, said he was confident that he did nothing wrong. "I'm not worried about it. It's all up in the air right now," he said. But that didn't stop the hits from coming. Linebacker Rey Maualuga was formally sentenced for misdemeanor assault in connection with an incident last November when he punched a man at a Halloween party. Maualuga reportedly had another incident earlier this semester, when police spoke to him for urinating in public. No charges were filed. And how much did Matt Leinart's decision cost to return for his senior season and take his ballroom dancing class? At least $10 million, maybe more.
